Netflix has confirmed using generative AI-powered visual effects in its Argentine sci-fi series The Eternaut, marking the platform’s first such usage. Co-CEO Ted Sarandos revealed that a building collapse scene in Buenos Aires was created using AI tools by Netflix’s in-house VFX team, making the process ten times faster and more cost-effective than traditional methods. While AI use sparked industry concerns over job security and ethical use, Netflix insists it won’t compromise storytelling. The Eternaut, based on a 1950s graphic novel, topped Netflix’s non-English-language charts and entered global Top 10 rankings. A second season has already been announced.
