On July 20, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma performed the Bhumi Pujan for the expansion of Purabi Dairy in Guwahati, in collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). The project aims to boost Assam's milk processing to 10 lakh litres per day. The plant's capacity will first be increased to 3 lakh litres, with new processing units planned in Silchar, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat. CM Sarma also announced a subsidy of ₹5 per litre for cooperative milk producers, benefiting 20,000 farmers. He expressed confidence that Assam will achieve its milk production goals within the next 3–4 years.
