Chirang Excise Superintendent Gouranga Choudhury and Inspector Dibyajyoti Sharma were suspended for gross negligence following a ₹50 lakh illegal liquor factory bust in Shantipur near the India-Bhutan border. The June 19 raid, conducted by Bongaigaon excise officials and a Guwahati enforcement team without informing Chirang authorities, uncovered counterfeit liquor and raw materials. The factory posed public health risks and caused revenue losses. The Assam Governor approved their suspension, citing their failure to prevent illicit activities. The incident raised concerns over accountability and emphasized the need for stronger inter-district coordination to combat the illegal liquor trade in Assam.
