The Sikkim government has declared August 10 as “Aama Samman Diwas” to annually honour the vital role of mothers in society. Announced by Chief Secretary R. Telang, the day acknowledges mothers’ sacrifices, compassion, and their role in nurturing responsible citizens. Coinciding with “Jan Unmukti Diwas,” which marks CM Prem Singh Tamang’s release from prison in 2018, the day now holds both political and emotional significance. Proposed by the ruling SKM, the dual observance reflects both personal sacrifice and political freedom. Celebrations may include welfare schemes, official events, and community outreach, highlighting the state’s commitment to women’s empowerment and inclusive governance.
