Devotee Swept Away During Mansa Devi Idol Immersion in Silchar; SDRF Initiates Search Operation

On July 30 in Silchar, a religious event turned tragic when Gaurang Ghosh was swept away by strong Barak River currents during Mansa Devi idol immersion at Sadarghat. While performing rituals, Krishna Ghosh and Biplab Das accidentally fell into the river. Gaurang, unable to swim, jumped in to save them but was overpowered by the current. Constable Jamil Ahmed Mazumdar rescued Krishna and Biplab using a cloth as a rope. Gaurang remains missing, and the SDRF has launched a rescue operation. Cachar’s Additional SP Numal Mahatta is monitoring the ongoing search efforts at the site.
