China has raised concerns over potential security risks in Nvidia’s H20 AI chip, following a reversed U.S. export ban. The Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) summoned Nvidia to clarify whether the chip contains backdoor risks that could affect user data privacy. This comes amid U.S. proposals for AI chips with location tracking to prevent Chinese access. Despite strong domestic demand for Nvidia’s chips, including from military and research sectors, China is asserting tech independence. Analysts believe Beijing’s warning is symbolic, not a signal to oust Nvidia. Meanwhile, Nvidia also faces an antitrust probe in China over past acquisition commitments.
