India's Semiconductor Mission: Progress Report of the Last Three Years

India launched the ₹76,000 crore Semicon India Programme in December 2021 to boost domestic semiconductor and display manufacturing. A key component, the ₹1,000 crore Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme, offers up to 50% cost support to Indian companies, MSMEs, and startups, capped at ₹15 crore. As of now, ₹803.08 crore has been approved under DLI, benefiting 23 firms developing chips for diverse applications. Ten firms have also secured venture capital funding. Additionally, Meity supports 72 startups and 278 academic institutions with Electronic Design Automation tools, and 17 institutes have fabricated 20 chip designs at the Mohali Semiconductor Laboratory.
