Peruvian President Dina Boluarte criticized the Inter-American Court of Human Rights for ordering the suspension of a controversial amnesty bill. The bill grants immunity to security forces involved in Peru’s internal conflict (1985–2000), during which around 70,000 people, mainly Indigenous, were killed. Boluarte claimed the court overstepped its authority and defended the bill as justice for armed forces. Critics, including the UN and human rights groups, argue it shields perpetrators of atrocities. The Inter-American Court ruled the law violates international obligations and past rulings. The bill could overturn 156 convictions and halt over 600 ongoing human rights investigations.
