The Election Commission of India has announced that the Vice-Presidential election will be held on September 9, following the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 22 due to health reasons. The last date for filing nominations is August 21, and the votes will be counted on the same day as polling. Dhankhar, who became Vice President in 2022, stepped down citing medical advice. The election will follow the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Act, 1952. As per Article 66 of the Constitution, the Vice President is elected by an electoral college comprising members of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha via secret ballot.
