Madras High Court Bars Tamil Nadu from Naming Schemes After MK Stalin

The Madras High Court has directed the Tamil Nadu government to avoid using Chief Minister MK Stalin's name or image in publicity materials for government welfare schemes. This follows a petition by AIADMK MP CV Shanmugam challenging schemes like 'Ungaludan Stalin', claiming they violate Supreme Court rulings and 2014 government advertisement guidelines. The court emphasized that publicly funded welfare schemes must remain politically neutral and not promote living politicians. In response, Tamil Nadu's counsel P Wilson argued the petition was politically driven. The court clarified that the order doesn't halt the schemes, only their partisan naming and promotional practices.
