A day after reports suggested Indian state-run oil companies halted Russian crude imports, government sources denied the claims, stating that India’s energy decisions are based on market dynamics and national interest. The clarification came after US President Donald Trump praised the reported halt. India, a major buyer of Russian seaborne crude, reportedly paused new requests amid US pressure. However, officials reiterated India’s clear stance and long-standing ties with Russia, while maintaining strong US relations. Trump also imposed a 25% tariff on Indian goods and criticized India’s ties with Russia, but India reaffirmed its independent energy and foreign policy decisions.
