At least 68 refugees and migrants, mostly Ethiopians, died and 74 remain missing after a boat capsized off Yemen’s Abyan province, according to the UN’s International Organization for Migration (IOM). The bodies of 54 were found in Khanfar, and 14 others elsewhere. Twelve survived. The boat had 154 people on board. The route between Yemen and the Horn of Africa is frequently used by migrants despite being dangerous. Conflicts in Africa and Yemen’s proximity to Gulf nations make it a common path. Over the past decade, more than 2,000 people have disappeared along this route, with 558 deaths reported last year.
