Amid rising US pressure over trade talks and India’s continued purchase of Russian oil, PM Modi asserted that India will not compromise on the interests of farmers, fishermen, and livestock rearers, even at personal cost. Speaking at the M.S. Swaminathan Centenary Conference, he emphasized agriculture as a top priority. The US has imposed steep tariffs on Indian imports, including shrimps, citing national security over India’s Russian oil trade. India firmly rejected demands for GM crop access and condemned the tariffs as unfair. The MEA stated India’s energy imports serve national interests and vowed to protect its sovereignty and farmers' welfare.
