To tackle ongoing traffic congestion and enhance emergency response in Shillong, Meghalaya Police has launched seven traffic control helpline numbers across East Khasi Hills District. Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said the initiative aims to reduce response times, especially given Shillong's narrow roads and hilly terrain. Each traffic branch now has a dedicated helpline for reporting accidents, roadblocks, and unsafe conditions. The decentralized approach is expected to boost coordination and efficiency. The helpline numbers cater to key traffic zones, including Laban, Laitumkhrah, Rynjah, Lumdiengjri, Sadar, Madanrting, and Mawlai. The initiative is seen as a vital move toward safer, smoother traffic management.
