Tribeny Rai’s debut Nepali feature film Shape of Momo (Chhora Jastai) has been officially selected for the 2025 San Sebastián International Film Festival in Spain under the ‘New Directors’ category. A historic moment for Sikkim and Indian Nepali-language cinema, the film explores themes of familial duty and female identity in Himalayan matriarchal society. Shot in Nandok and Assam Lingzey, it’s produced as an Indo-Korean collaboration. Rai, an SRFTI graduate, expressed gratitude to the Sikkim Government and plans to attend the festival. The selection marks a major milestone for Northeast Indian cinema and celebrates culturally rooted storytelling on a global stage.
