Four reactors at France’s Gravelines nuclear plant shut down after jellyfish clogged water pumping station filters, EDF said, stressing no safety risk. Three units stopped Sunday, the fourth Monday, with restarts expected Thursday. Warmer waters, invasive species like Asian Moon jellyfish, and human factors such as overfishing and pollution have increased jellyfish swarms. Such incidents, though rare, have disrupted plants in Sweden, Japan, China, and India. Scientists are exploring prevention methods, including drone monitoring. The North Sea’s warming climate widens jellyfish breeding periods, while ships spread species globally. EDF assured no power shortage, with other energy sources covering demand.
