The United States has revoked visas of Brazilian, African, and Caribbean officials linked to Cuba’s overseas medical program, which Washington labels “forced labour.” Two Brazilian Health Ministry officials, involved in the Mais Médicos (“More Doctors”) program, were specifically targeted. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio cited their role in supporting Cuba’s coercive labour export, enriching the regime while depriving Cubans of medical care. Visa restrictions were also applied to unspecified African officials and Grenada. Cuba condemned the move as a pretext to undermine its foreign currency earnings, asserting its medical cooperation will continue, highlighting the program’s historical role since the 1959 revolution.
