Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Union Cabinet has approved a new Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Guwahati, the second in the Northeast after IIM Shillong. The permanent campus will be set up in Palasbari, Kamrup district, with IIM Ahmedabad as the mentor during its initial years. Sarma said the institute will enhance Assam’s role as a hub for higher education and skill development, offering world-class management training. It is expected to attract students nationwide, foster global collaborations, promote research and entrepreneurship, and strengthen the state’s economic and professional growth.
