A much-anticipated summit in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin ended without a Ukraine ceasefire deal, though Trump claimed “great progress.” Putin, welcomed warmly on his first Western visit since the 2022 invasion, called the meeting “long overdue” and framed it as a step toward peace, while critics saw it as a diplomatic win for him. The leaders offered no concrete details, only vague progress. Trump later urged Ukrainian President Zelenskyy to “make a deal” and said a ceasefire meeting with Putin was planned. Meanwhile, fighting continued in eastern Ukraine with drone strikes reported.
