On 15 August 2025, student bodies including AASU commemorated the 40th anniversary of the Assam Accord, paying tribute to the martyrs of the Assam agitation. While the Accord, signed in 1985, aimed to address illegal immigration and protect Assamese identity, many key provisions remain unfulfilled. Indigenous communities and activists expressed concerns over slow implementation, legal challenges, and continuing threats to culture, land, and demographics. Leaders like Utpal Sarma and Samiran Phukon criticized the government for incomplete execution. The day highlighted both respect for past sacrifices and the ongoing need to fully realize the Accord’s promises for lasting regional stability.
