Assam government will launch a new eviction drive in Rengma Reserve Forest, Uriumghat, Golaghat, targeting 2,500 bighas of encroached land. Following a recent large-scale eviction recovering 10,000 bighas, this operation aims to clear illegal structures and protect forest land. Since the campaign began, over 1.29 lakh bighas of government and forest land have been reclaimed statewide. Special Chief Secretary Yadav reported removal of 8,900 bighas and 4,000 unauthorized structures. MLA Biswajit Phukan praised the effort, highlighting eco-tourism potential, while officials credited careful planning and law enforcement for smooth execution and ongoing monitoring.
