Two orphaned Asiatic black bear cubs, rescued from Dissoi Reserve Forest, Jorhat, were soft-released into Dehing Patkai National Park, marking a milestone in Assam’s wildlife conservation. Found at four and six weeks old, the cubs were handed to Jorhat Forest Division and cared for at Kaziranga’s CWRC, following Asiatic black bear rehabilitation protocols from CBRC, Arunachal Pradesh. They received medical care, proper nutrition, and minimal human imprinting. After a scientific site assessment, Dehing Patkai was chosen for its rich vegetation, prey availability, and low human disturbance. The release demonstrates Assam’s commitment to ethical wildlife management and community-supported conservation.
