Former Manipur CM N. Biren Singh cited Assam Rifles DG Lt. Gen. Vikas Lakhera’s disclosure that around 42,000 outsiders entered Manipur through the Indo-Myanmar border since December 2024. Singh thanked Lakhera for confirming that biometric data of illegal entrants is being collected, stressing that the measure proves the influx is real. He expressed relief that such individuals are under strict surveillance, kept only in secure locations, and monitored closely. Singh asserted that the Northeast is fully aware of the situation. His remarks come amid growing concerns and calls for tighter security along the 398-km Indo-Myanmar border.
