The Meghalaya government distributed appointment letters to 445 new Civil Defence and Home Guards recruits at a Rozgar Mela in Mawdiangdiang. Minister Comingone Ymbon urged them to serve with integrity, discipline, and dedication, highlighting the department’s crucial role during disasters and emergencies. Over 22,000 candidates applied, and selection was done through physical, written, and interview tests. Despite delays due to heavy rains, the recruitment concluded smoothly. Civil Defence Director M.K. Sangma announced plans to recruit 233 more personnel and proposed converting the Border Wing Home Guards into the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to strengthen disaster preparedness and public safety.
