Assam’s Historic Sootea Police Station, Linked to Quit India Movement, to Get Heritage Facelift

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone for a ₹5-crore project to transform the historic Sootea police station, where the tricolour was first hoisted during the Quit India Movement in 1942, into a tourist destination. He said the initiative aims to preserve Assam’s freedom struggle legacy and inspire future generations. Sarma highlighted Sootea’s role in showcasing courage against colonial rule, calling it a pivotal moment in India’s history. Historians have documented the event in records and archives. Alongside, the CM inaugurated two girls’ hostels at Tyagbir Hem Baruah College in Jamuguri, reflecting development efforts in Sootea.
