From September 1, 2025, tourists visiting Arunachal Pradesh’s iconic Bumla Pass in Tawang will have to pay an entry fee of ₹100, as per a circular issued by Deputy Commissioner Namgyal Angmo. Children below 12 years and APST members are exempt. The revenue will be used for environmental conservation, waste management, and community development, inspired by Meghalaya’s community-led tourism model. Bumla Pass, situated 37 km from Tawang at 15,200 feet, is famed for its Himalayan views, strategic role in the 1962 Sino-Indian War, and Indian Army presence. Locals have welcomed the move as vital for sustainable and responsible tourism.
