Authorities in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills have imposed a night curfew within 1 km of the Indo-Bangladesh border, effective immediately for two months, to curb illegal activities and infiltration. Enforced under Section 163 of the BNSS, the curfew restricts movement from 8 pm to 6 am, bans gatherings of five or more people, and prohibits carrying weapons or smuggling-related items. Commonly trafficked goods like cattle, betel nut, dry fish, and cigarettes were flagged. Officials cited the volatile situation in Bangladesh and risks of militant infiltration, smuggling, and organised crime, stressing the need to protect peace and border security.
