FIR Lodged Against Journalist Abhisar Sharma in Guwahati Over Alleged Anti-Government Video

The Guwahati Crime Branch has lodged an FIR against journalist and YouTuber Abhisar Sharma for allegedly mocking the Assam and Union governments in a video. The case, filed under Sections 152 (sedition), 196, and 197 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (2023), stems from a complaint by 23-year-old Alok Baruah of Ganeshguri. Sharma allegedly accused CM Himanta Biswa Sarma of communal politics and claimed the government thrives on Hindu-Muslim polarisation. The complaint alleges mala fide intent to malign governments, provoke communal tensions, and incite distrust. Police said the remarks violate provisions on sovereignty, national integrity, and promoting enmity between groups.
