National Cocoa Conclave in Jorhat Brings Fresh Prospects for Cocoa Cultivation in Northeast

The National Cocoa Conclave at Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, highlighted the potential of cocoa cultivation in Northeast India. Over two days, farmers, scientists, researchers, and officials exchanged knowledge, success stories, and strategies to expand cocoa farming. Experts stressed the region’s favorable soil and climate, while farmers saw cocoa as a means to diversify income and improve livelihoods. The Directorate of Cashewnut and Cocoa Development (DCCD), which has guided the sector since 1966, continues to lead training and development efforts. Participants expressed optimism that with research, policy support, and farmer involvement, cocoa farming will significantly grow, beginning in the Northeast.
