CM Himanta Announces Assam’s Longest Flyover in Guwahati to be Named After Maharaja Prithu

On August 23, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state’s longest flyover on GNB Road, Guwahati (4.4 km) will be named after Maharaja Prithu, honouring his courage in defeating Bakhtiyar Khilji, who had destroyed Nalanda. Sarma said this naming serves as a reminder of Assam’s role in defending India’s spirit. Meanwhile, the Assam Cabinet decided to suspend Aadhaar issuance for those above 18, except SC, ST, and tea garden communities, for one year to prevent illegal immigrants from misusing it. Eligible applicants from other groups may apply only in September, CM Sarma clarified.
