Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma celebrated the state’s centuries-long legacy of resisting foreign invasions, calling it an “eternal saga of heroism.” Highlighting Assam’s rulers and warriors, he recounted key battles—from Maharaja Prithu’s defeat of Bakhtiyar Khilji in 1206 CE to the decisive Battle of Itakhuli in 1682—emphasizing the state’s resilience against 18 major invasions. Sarma noted Assam preserved its independence while much of India fell under foreign rule, crediting the courage, unity, and sacrifices of kings, commanders, and soldiers. He urged citizens to honor this enduring spirit of resistance and heroism that safeguarded Assam’s sovereignty.
