30 Dead in Landslides on Vaishno Devi Route Amid Heavy North India Rains

At least 30 people were killed after heavy rains triggered a massive landslide near the Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir. Reasi SSP confirmed the toll, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah termed the tragedy “extremely tragic,” assuring full Centre support and deploying NDRF teams. CRPF’s 6th Battalion launched rescue efforts, evacuating injured pilgrims to hospitals and assisting those stranded. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed condolences and ordered immediate aid. The IMD reported widespread thunderstorms across the region and urged residents, especially in hilly and low-lying areas, to remain indoors and follow safety advisories amid continuous rainfall.
