The Government of India has designated Assam Medical College & Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh, as a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Rare Diseases under the National Policy for Rare Diseases (NPRD), 2021. An official memorandum from the Health Ministry’s Rare Disease Cell confirmed AMCH’s inclusion as one of 15 premier hospitals nationwide equipped for diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of rare diseases. This makes AMCH the first institute in Assam and the Northeast to earn such recognition. Under NPRD guidelines, AMCH will provide specialized care and promote research, significantly improving healthcare access for patients across Assam and the entire Northeastern region.
