Nagaland’s Kezoma village in Kohima district will host the first Ochü Millet Festival on August 30, organized by the Kezoma Village Council with the Agriculture and Tourism Departments. Special guest Y. Vikheho Swu will attend. The festival will feature locally grown millets and organic produce, with sales and cultural activities. Millet, deeply tied to Kezoma’s traditions, was historically celebrated through the Chünyi festival, involving rituals, prayers for rain, and communal feasting. While many practices have faded, the new festival seeks to revive and preserve these customs, promote millet as a sustainable crop, and pass cultural heritage to future generations.
