Centre to Release ₹100 Commemorative Coin for Bhupen Hazarika; Himanta Biswa Sarma Thanks PM Modi

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the Centre announced a ₹100 commemorative coin to mark the birth centenary of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika. Sharing the Union Finance Ministry’s Gazette notification on X, Sarma described the move as “a timeless recognition” for Hazarika and appreciated Modi for honoring the legendary singer-composer, making the centenary celebrations special. Originally set to inaugurate the events in Guwahati on September 8, Modi will now attend the celebrations on September 13, highlighting the importance of the occasion and the recognition of Hazarika’s contributions to music and culture.
