Ahead of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, NDA leaders including Himanta Biswa Sarma, Sarbananda Sonowal, and Atul Bora set a target of winning 100 of 126 seats. At a rally attended by Amit Shah, focus was laid on development, anti-infiltration, and criticism of Congress. Sarma alleged threats from Rahul Gandhi and Islamic scholar Madani, vowing to defend Assam. Shah praised anti-encroachment drives, recalling Golap Borbora’s voter list cleansing and reaffirming BJP’s goal of an infiltration-free India. Sonowal and Bora criticised Congress for neglect and fundamentalist growth. The BJP currently holds 64 seats; allies AGP and UPPL add 16.
