NYT: President Trump Unlikely to Visit India for Quad Summit This Year

In June, India announced that US President Donald Trump had accepted PM Narendra Modi’s invitation for the Quad Summit, but a New York Times report suggests Trump is unlikely to visit this fall. Trade negotiations stalled after Trump imposed an additional 25% tariff on India over Russian oil imports. Relations further soured during a June 17 call, where Trump claimed credit for ending India-Pakistan hostilities and hinted Modi should support his Nobel bid. India rejected US mediation, stressing the ceasefire was a bilateral decision. The report also alleges Trump considered forcing a Modi–Pakistani army chief meeting, unsettling Indian officials.
