India has imposed an immediate ban on all direct and indirect imports from Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, citing national security concerns. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry amended the Foreign Trade Policy on May 2, with the ban effective until further notice. Exceptions require explicit government approval. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade enforces the restriction. India is also pursuing measures to curtail Pakistan’s financial inflows, including efforts to return it to the Financial Action Task Force’s grey list and lobbying multilateral development banks like the IMF and World Bank to withhold funding to Pakistan.
