UNSC Grills Pakistan in Closed-Door Meeting Amid Escalating India Tensions

The UN Security Council held a closed-door meeting on Monday to address escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that killed 26 people. Requested by Pakistan and convened by Greece, the meeting saw members urging de-escalation and questioning Pakistan’s role. UN officials called the situation "volatile" and emphasized peaceful dialogue. Pakistan claimed its objectives were met but failed to internationalize the issue, as members raised concerns about its missile tests and nuclear rhetoric. India responded to the attack by suspending the Indus Water Treaty and deporting Pakistani nationals; Pakistan retaliated by suspending the Simla Agreement.
