Parliamentary Panel Demands Report on Action Against Social Media Platforms ‘Undermining’ National Interest

A parliamentary panel has asked the government to provide details on action planned against social media platforms and influencers allegedly acting against national interest and potentially inciting violence following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Communications and Information Technology, led by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, wrote to the secretaries of the Ministry of Electronics and IT and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The panel requested information on proposed bans under the IT Act 2000 and IT Rules 2021, with a response deadline set for May 8, 2025.
