Severe overnight floods in the Democratic Republic of the Congo's South Kivu province have killed over 100 people, mostly children and the elderly, after torrential rains caused the Kasaba River to overflow and sweep through villages. The floods destroyed around 150 homes and injured 28 people. Local authorities reported at least 104 deaths, while a resident claimed 119 bodies were found. Rescue efforts are hindered by damaged infrastructure and limited support, with only the Red Cross present. Such disasters are common in the region due to deforestation. The nation also faces ongoing conflict and mass displacement, deepening the humanitarian crisis.
