Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai was sworn in as the 52nd Chief Justice of India on Wednesday by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. He succeeds Justice Sanjiv Khanna and will serve until November 23, 2025. Born in Amravati, Maharashtra, in 1960, Gavai became a Supreme Court judge in 2019 and is the first practising Buddhist to hold the top judicial post. He has served on key Constitution benches and represents the Scheduled Caste category on the bench after a decade. During his swearing-in, top leaders including the Vice-President, Prime Minister, and several Union Ministers were present.
