Researchers at Nagaland University, led by Prof Prabhakar Sharma, have developed a nature-based technology to convert wastewater into clean water, biofuels, biogas, and nutrients. This eco-friendly system uses plants, algae, and microbes for simultaneous treatment and resource recovery. Highlighted by Vice Chancellor Prof Jagadish K Patnaik, the innovation addresses pollution and promotes sustainable water management. Key features include hybrid microbial-algae systems, constructed wetlands, and microplastic capture. Designed to be modular and low-cost, it's ideal for rural areas. The approach supports national goals in sanitation and climate resilience. Pilot projects are planned to test real-world effectiveness and economic feasibility.
