On May 21, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan hailed Mizoram as India’s first fully literate state under the ULLAS - Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram. With a 98.2% literacy rate, exceeding the 95% benchmark, Mizoram’s success was credited to community collaboration and government efforts. The achievement was officially announced in Aizawl, recognizing the work of the School Education Department, Samagra Shiksha, and volunteers. Over 1,600 adult learners participated in literacy classes conducted by 292 volunteers. The initiative was supported by Mizo-language materials and learning aids. Mizoram’s recognition marks a significant milestone in India’s push for inclusive, lifelong education under the Viksit Bharat vision.
