Mizoram government hospitals will soon start tissue and kidney transplants, marking a major advancement in the state’s medical services, announced Health Minister Lalrinpuii. A Cardiology operation theatre (Cath Lab) and a designated kidney transplant theatre have been set up at Aizawl Civil Hospital, with expert surgeons from outside initially training local doctors. Open heart surgery facilities are also being developed at Zoram Medical College Hospital with significantly lower costs compared to private hospitals. The Mizoram Universal Health Care Scheme (MUHCS), launched in April, offers up to ₹5 lakh cashless health coverage per family annually, benefiting many and encouraging non-government employees to register.
