Indian Railways will export 150 locomotives to Guinea, West Africa, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagging off the first unit from Bihar’s Marhowrah factory on June 20. This marks India’s first commercial locomotive export, boosting railway revenues. Built under a PPP model with GE Transportation, the ₹3,533 crore contract includes 4,500 HP locomotives equipped with modern tech and eco-friendly features. The exports will aid Guinea’s iron ore transport and strengthen India-Africa ties. The Marhowrah facility employs over 1,500 people directly and indirectly, positioning it as a global locomotive export hub. Modi will also launch a Vande Bharat train to Gorakhpur.
