Retired judge Nino Iralu was sworn in as Nagaland’s new Lokayukta on Monday, becoming the third person to hold the post. The ceremony was held at the civil secretariat conference hall in Kohima, where Chief Secretary J Alam administered the oath and Home Commissioner Anoop Khinchi initiated the proceedings. Iralu succeeds Banuo Z Jamir, who took over after Justice Uma Nath Singh resigned in February 2021. During the interim, Upa-Lokayukta Mayang Lima managed the role. Iralu, a former district and sessions judge, was appointed by the governor based on the Selection Committee’s recommendation under the Nagaland Lokayukta Act, 2017.
