Tripura Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma on Thursday called for the identification and deportation of illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Myanmar, including Rohingyas, following the Centre’s directive. Speaking strongly, he urged that such immigrants be forcefully deported, warning that their presence threatens Tripura’s security and resources. Referring indirectly to pre-1971 migrants, he reminded them of their refugee status. Debbarma linked rising unemployment, inflation, and soaring land prices—especially in Agartala—to unchecked immigration. The minister, a senior TIPRA Motha leader, stressed that continued influx would lead to a severe space and resource crisis for all residents of the state.
