Human Rights Commission Demands Report from Andhra Government on Gas Leak Tragedy

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of a June 11 gas leak in Anakapalli, Andhra Pradesh, which led to the deaths of two workers and left another hospitalized. The NHRC has ordered the state government, Chief Secretary, and Anakapalli SP to submit a detailed report within two weeks, including the injured worker’s health status and any compensation given. The incident occurred during night shift waste treatment at a pharmaceutical company’s plant. The NHRC expressed concern over potential human rights violations. A similar gas leak in November 2024 in the same district had also resulted in casualties.
