Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has announced plans to meet the US Ambassador to India to address a recent US travel advisory labeling Meghalaya as “unsafe” due to terrorism and violence. Sangma strongly refuted the claim, calling it “incorrect” and said he would request a revision through the Ministries of External and Home Affairs. The US advisory urged citizens to reconsider travel to the region, except for capital cities. Sangma expressed disappointment over the continued negative perception of the state’s safety, asserting Meghalaya is safe. Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong also criticized the advisory, questioning its sources.
